Professional Biography
Lena Michele Mitchell was selected Teacher of the Year at Lawrence County High School 2017-2018 school year. In 2005, she attended Athens State University on a full academic scholarship and received a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in mathematics. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Kappa Mu Epsilon, and MACS Club. She also attended NorthwestShoals Community College on an academic scholarship and earned an associate’s degree in Pre-Secondary Education. While there, she was in Phi Theta Kappa, Circle K, and received the President’s Cup award. She is highly qualified in mathematics grades sixth through twelfth.
Mrs. Mitchell began her teaching career at Lawrence County High working with students in the resource room. She taught practical mathematics and helped other students individually with Algebra and Geometry who had IEPs. In 2006, she taught seventh and eighth graders general mathematics and pre-algebra at Speake School. The following year she began to teach ninth through twelfth-grade math classes also. She also helped with Junior Beta and co-sponsored the Speake varsity cheerleaders. Mrs. Mitchell continued to teach at Speake School until 2009 when she was transferred to Lawrence County High following the consolidation of county schools. She has remained at Lawrence County High to present day. There she is the Senior Beta Sponsor, a member of the PST, and is on the technology committee. She teaches Advanced Algebra I, Advanced Geometry with Data Analysis, and Algebra I.
